NLGX’s own, Ed and Michel, were interviewed by Hong Kong television station, TVB, last month about protecting Beijing’s old hutong areas and also introducing the neighborhood of Nanluoguxiang. Last night, the segment was broadcast worldwide. Enjoy!
Over the last week at Nanluoguxiang, a team of diggers, brick movers, and electricians have been have been digging, moving brick, and laying down thick electric cables under the latest government project to beautify the hutong area. According to one of the workers, they will finish installing the cables within the week, which which will connect to the many grey electric generator stations installed earlier in the year. These cables and power generator systems will replace the tangled mess of electrical wires currently hanging above Nanluoguxiang via tall concrete poles. The sight of these tangled, suspended electrical wires are, unfortunately, a common sight around Beijing. No later than August 8, 2008, they will be “chai’d” from Nanluoguxiang!
According to regulations from the Chinese central government, today marks the first day of a nationwide effort to reduce the use (and waste) of plastic bags. While this is not a complete ban of plastic bags (includes only those categorizes as ultra-thin bags, less than 0.025 mm thick), this is certainly a positive step forward to reduce consumption of what some estimate to be 3 billion plastic bags DAILY in China (!).
At NLGX, we encourage the use of sustainable materials and are introducing a new, stylish way for you to support a plastic bag-free lifestyle as well - the NLGX “X-Ray” Cloth Bag! This is latest in our collection of NLGX Designs and we welcome you to drop by our shop at #33 Nanluoguxiang to check it out!
